So here is the first story about what an idiot I can be sometimes, I am sure there will be many more...
Tonight I decided to make scones as part of our dinner. Steve LOVES scones and is always begging for them, so for his sake I sacrificed my waist line, got out the oil and the deep frying began. All was going as planned, until I accidentally dropped the tongs I was using to turn over the scones on my plate of raw bacon (the bacon is yet another "sacrifice" for Steve). A seemly harmless mistake, but this is where the trouble started. I am so paranoid about any sort of food poisoning, that I can't just pick up the tongs and call the 3 second rule, oh no, I had to clean them off with soap and hot water.
Again seemly harmless, but at some point during the cleaning process I stopped thinking about the cleaning and started wondering off in thought, (about how excited I am to try out the whole strike through thing, it looks fun!) until I was yanked back into reality to see my scone turning a very dark, dark shade of brown, okay yes it was completely black. I quickly reached over with my tongs to rescue this sizzling blob when all of a sudden it attacked me! At least that was the first thought that came to my mind, quickly I realized that it was the oil attacking me, not the actual scone, and shortly after that I figured out what really happened.
Now just incase common sense didn't dictate to you, because it forgot to tell me, that you can't stick tongs into a pan of VERY hot oil when there is still water on them. If you don't believe me, believe the little red dots all around my eyes and forehead! Luckily it only took about 2 hours and lots of cold water for them to stop stinging.
I am pleased to say that the girls were far enough away that they were not hit by the exploding oil in my kitchen, although Becca (2.5 yrs) did witness it all and told me afterward that now I am a "hot mama". The best part of all, in the girls sibling pre-school class we will be attending tomorrow morning it is...you guessed...it picture day!
